96 Jeep Grand Cherokee

 Replaced starter,cause Jeep wouldn't crank. Had to jump off b/c it had been sitting for 3 months. Cranked fine. Drove 15 miles home, replaced battery, and all it does not is the starter ticks real bad when you try to crank. Will not fire or anything. help please

 well first I'd try jumping the solinoid, by taking a screwdriver and touching the two threaded post on the driver making sure it was flat on the post. MAKE SURE YOU WEAR GLOVES AND DO NOT TOUCH THE METAL SHANK OF THE DRIVER, CUZ YOU MIGHT GET A SHOCK. If that doesnt work I'd chenck the ingnition modual, you can take it to autozone to get it tested. Then again it could be alternater, you can check that by jumping it and getting it started (asuming it will), and pulling the positive cable off the battery, however this is not recomended by mechanics, and you can take it in to have it tested as well, its just a pain to get out. Bottom line if you truck starts with a jump, it's probably the alt, if it doesnt start sounds like the solinoid.
